Dates with a Biker

Image
I’ve been on two dates with a biker in the last three days. No, I'm not talking about a motorcycle kind of biker I'm talking about a bicyclist kind of biker - my husband Owen.  I’m not sure what it says about us, that we get a sitter to watch the kids and instead of heading out for a romantic dinner or out to see a movie we load our bikes in the van and head to the Cannon Valley Trail for a bike ride. But that’s what we did on Thursday - we arranged for a sitter just so we could ride our bikes. And you know what? A bike ride date is something I’d like to do again. Why a ride on the Cannon Valley Trail instead of a ride on the roads near our home? Well, I’ve been wanting to get out on my road bike for a ride of 20 miles or so to see how my new saddle feels on longer rides. I didn’t want to ride the hilly roads near our home and have to work hard, I simply wanted a nice flat piece of trail so I could just pedal away and see how the saddle and I got along.  Owen and I got on the...

Got T-Shirts?

Feeling the urge to do something good? Have a few extra t-shirts around your house that are in great condition? Northfield's multi-sport store,   Fit to be Tri'd, is collecting t-shirts, athletic shorts and money to ship them for the Nepomuceno Boys Home   in Nepomuceno, Brazil through the end of this week.  Fit to be Tri'd features an athlete in their monthly email newsletter but owner Tom Bisel decided to change t hings up a bit for his April issue and feature the boys home instead. Here's what Tom wrote in his newsletter, "This issue we are featuring the Nepomuceno Boys Home in Nepomuceno, Brazil rather than a local athlete or club. This change comes due to the death of a friend of mine that started the orphanage for boys some 50 years ago. One of our core values here at FIT to be TRI'd is to take the opportunities that come along to give back to causes bigger than ourselves.  My friend was Arnold   Boich... I would like to honor him this month by partn...

New cycling shorts - Yay!

Image
A couple of days ago I stopped in to Fit to be Tri'd , a multisport store in the heart of downtown Northfield that opened several months ago. Tom Bisel, the owner and a seasoned Triathlete, carries a wide variety of clothing, shoes and gear for triathletes plus offers a lot of support for athletes in the community. He has a great selection of clothing for cyclists and also carries a lot of stuff for women. Since I've been biking every day and only have one pair of cycling shorts, I went in to the shop with the hope of finding another pair of shorts. Inside of Fit to be Tri'd - Northfield, MN I have tried on a lot of cycling shorts in the last nine months. The pair I currently wear is the Pearl Izumi Attack Short. I like the shorts, they fit well, have a thick chamois (the padding inside) so my butt doesn't get sore on long rides and I feel like I look decent in them.  I know, who's going to care how I look when I ride? Well, I do. Because if I feel like I look...
